For months environmentalists have whispered that the Legislature’s push toward water storage north of Lake Okeechobee was driven by sugar interests. When the administration of Miami Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava signed a multimillion dollar no-bid contract with a COVID-19 testing company in late January, the mayor’s spokeswoman says nobody there knew about a well-publicized FDA alert issued weeks earlier warning of the risk of false negative results with the company’s tests. -

Shane Strum, the governor’s chief of staff, will become chief executive of Broward Health later this month with a handcrafted three-year contract worth $1.3 million annually, despite having no hands-on experience running a hospital.
