WHO WE ARE Broward Bulldog is an independent, not for profit online-only newspaper created to provide authoritative local reporting in the public interest. We are Florida’s first non-profit regional news site staffed by veteran, professional journalists. Our reporters will provide issue-oriented and investigative coverage of government, politics, the courts, education, business, the environment, health and public safety. OUR FUNDING Broward Bulldog Inc. is a federally tax exempt 501(c) (3) organization. We operate through the financial support of concerned individuals, foundations and businesses that value local news and watchdog journalism.

Staff
Dan Christensen, editor and founder Dan is an award-winning former investigative reporter for The Miami Herald and Daily Business Review, and one of South Florida’s most experienced reporters. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in political science from the University of Miami. Dan’s stories about Broward Sheriff Ken Jenne’s private business dealings sparked a federal corruption investigation that landed Jenne in prison in 2007. His stories for The Miami Herald in 2006 about hidden court cases in Broward and elsewhere, and falsified official court records in Miami-Dade, resulted in unanimous Florida Supreme Court decisions in 2007 and 2010 to outlaw those practices. Similar stories for the Daily Business Review in 2003-2004 exposed excessive secrecy in the federal courts. The executive director of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press later called Dan “the nation’s leading journalist on an issue of tremendous First Amendment importance: the increasing trend toward secrecy in our nation’s courts.” In 2000-2001, Dan’s reporting about a deadly gun-planting conspiracy and cover-up by Miami police resulted in the indictment of more than a dozen officers and significant governmental reform, including the establishment of Miami’s long sought civilian review panel. Alexander also owns and operates pedicab companies in Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Miami, Washington, D.C., Boston, Newport R.I. and New York City. Kevin P. Boyd – Owner of Boyd Public Relations and former managing editor, Hollywood Sun-Tattler. Boyd enjoyed a 17-year, award-winning career as a newspaper reporter and editor for such major news providers as the Chicago Tribune Co., Knight-Ridder, Scripps Howard and United Press International. For the past 19 years, he has worked as a senior account executive and partner/owner at three prominent Florida public relations firms. During his public relations career, Boyd has represented companies and organizations regionally, statewide and nationally, for both privately-owned and publicly-traded companies, as well as educational and non-profit organizations. Boyd has served on Broward’s Charter Review Commission and is an elected officer and member of the board of directors of the nonprofit, nonpartisan legislative advocacy group Broward Days. Broward Bulldog a nonprofit, independent and nonpartisan news organization that seeks to provide authoritative reporting in the public interest while upholding high standards of fairness and accuracy. We endorse the Code of Ethics of the Society of Professional Journalists. Re: Broward Bulldog accepted into Investigative News Network FORT LAUDERDALE – Broward Bulldog has been accepted into the Investigative News Network. The Investigative News Network is a national collaboration of nonprofit journalism organizations that conducts investigative reporting in the public interest. Only 40 organizations have been offered membership by the Investigative News Network. Membership requires meeting rigorous operational and reporting standards and solidifies Bulldog’s position as a credible source of hard-hitting local news. The decline of the for-profit print newspaper industry has sparked a burgeoning not-for-profit model which recognizes the changing landscape of news delivery and consumption. Successful news organizations are moving away from the labor-intense and high-overhead printing process to one of 2.0-based efficiency, around-the-clock access and mobility. However, instant news gratification must have checks and balances to ensure the integrity of the source and the content. On September 5, 2012, Broward Bulldog filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit in federal court in Fort Lauderdale against the Department of Justice and the FBI. The 25-page complaint seeks records of an investigation involving a Saudi family, former residents of Sarasota, who may have provided aid or assistance to the 9/11 hijackers.
